Conferences and Conversations

As difficult as it is to fathom, we have reached the quarter point in the school year: nine weeks completed with eight more to go before Christmas break. If your home is anything like mine, it has been a whirlwind of homework, uniforms, sports practices, and so much learning. Now is the time that we pause and reflect on the process, the skills, and what it means for the progress of each individual child.
Much thought and conversation has occurred in the ELA-8 division to make sure that this process is age appropriate and reflects the education that each child is receiving. I want to provide some insight into the communication you should expect between parents and teachers.
In the Early Learning Academy and grades 1 and 2, each classroom teacher is organizing mandatory conferences. The teacher will contact you for a time, preferably on November 1, our conference day. The teacher will share a written progress report at that conference and you will have a chance to discuss how the new school year has begun.
In grades 3 through 5, student grades are constantly updated, but every student should have received comments from their classroom teachers in the last week or so. The classroom teacher will arrange conferences for November 1, so please contact them if you do not yet have a conference time.
Students in grades 6-8 also have grades that are updated in real time and should be current. Each classroom teacher has posted comments regarding students and have already begun parent conferences. If you have not been contacted regarding conferences, please contact the advisor and he/she will work with you to schedule a time on conference day, November 1. Grades 6-8 will meet as a grade level, so when you schedule a conference, you will get to meet with all of your child’s teachers.
Conferences and comments offer an opportunity for us to share all the many successes your child is having at school. We cannot begin to express the joy that your children bring to us everyday. Thank you for sharing them with us.
