Conductor to visit, work with Concert Choir

Conductor Dr. Nathan Frank will visit Darlington’s Concert Choir on Tuesday, Feb. 10 to help prepare the fine arts students for upcoming performances and offer helpful hints and tips for vocal delivery. Frank is currently the director of worship and music at Johns Creek United Methodist Church in Johns Creek, Ga.
“Nathan will be working with the students, leading them in warm-ups, and coaching them on their Festival repertoire,” said Rebecca Duren, Darlington’s choral director. “As a tenor, Nathan has insight into men's voices that I am happy to expose the men of Concert Choir to!”
Duren and Frank became friends as undergrads in the music school at the University of North Texas. Together they sang under the leadership of the legendary Jerry McCoy, the choral department chair at UNT.
Before coming to Georgia, Frank worked as a visiting professor at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. where he taught courses on vocal and choral music education. While in Tacoma, Frank conducted the University Chorale and the University Singers, and served as the music director for Newport Presbyterian Church.
Frank received his undergraduate degree in voice at UNT, and earned his Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, he was the Senior Teaching Fellow and the tenor section leader for the SMU Chorale. Frank returned to UNT for his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting, where he was the Teaching Fellow for the Women’s Chorus and the tenor section leader for the A Cappella Choir. While in Texas, he served as the director of worship and fine arts at First United Methodist Church of Plano, where he led a music ministry of over 350 musicians.
On stage, Frank has sang solos from the music of classical composers to well-known opera selections, and also has extensive experience in musical theater.
