Admissions Marketing Report, the national newspaper of admissions marketing, recognized Darlington School with eight awards in the 23rd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition. This national competition celebrates the admissions marketing efforts of schools throughout the United States, including colleges and universities, graduate schools, secondary schools, vocational schools and art/design schools.

“I am extremely proud of our team because it functions effectively as an in-house advertising agency. On rare occasions do we seek external help,” said Bruce Watterson, chief communication officer. “We take pride in the fact that we partner with every division on campus to produce hundreds of printed and Web-based pieces each year, in addition to our media releases and magazine production.”

Darlington garnered a Gold Award for the school handbook, The Tiger Way. Silver Awards were earned for the new Style Guide & Graphic Standards publication, as well as for single newspaper advertisement in the “What is it About this Place?” series. A Bronze Award was earned for the Strategic Plan document, and four merit awards were earned for the recent winter edition of Darlington Magazine, the 2006-07 Honor Roll of Donors, the 2007 Alumni Weekend invitation, and a collection of brochures representing the academies, Learning Center and Summer Scholars program.

“Our communication strategy is based on a belief in students and in social purpose – that education must lead back to the Rome community. It relies on ingredients like good stories and good storytellers,” said Watterson. “We recognize that alumni want to be in the know. They want to start a conversation with ‘did you hear’ or ‘you’re never going to believe.’ And as an institution that has been around more than 100 years, we never underestimate the value of our students, faculty and staff.”
