Darlington School’s Communication Office has been recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and Admissions Marketing Report for outstanding work in the areas of development, communications, alumni relations and admission.

Darlington garnered three awards in the annual CASE District III Awards Competition. District III includes colleges, universities and independent schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

“The CASE III competition is unique because independent schools like Darlington compete directly against colleges and universities. The judging standards are quite high,” said Bruce Watterson, chief communication officer.

The School earned an Award of Excellence for its curriculum guides and two Special Merit Awards for the crisis plan procedures and a photo of the swans, which was taken by RuthAnne Anderson of Action Photos Plus and used on the front cover of the 2006-07 Darlington School Directory.

“I am extremely proud of our communications team because it functions effectively as an in-house advertising agency. On rare occasions do we seek external help,” said Watterson. “We take pride in the fact that we partner with every division on campus to produce over 300 printed and Web-based pieces a year, in addition to our media releases and magazine production.”

Admissions Marketing Report, the national newspaper of admissions marketing, recognized Darlington with eight awards in the 22nd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition. This national competition celebrates the admissions marketing efforts of schools throughout the United States, including colleges and universities, graduate schools, secondary schools, vocational schools and art/design schools.

The School earned Gold Awards for imprinted materials; search pieces for Top 25 Reasons to Attend Darlington School; newspaper ad single; and Lakeside e-Lines. Silver Awards were earned for the monthly parent calendar, Lakeside Lines, as well as the 2005-06 Honor Roll of Donors. Merit Awards were earned for the School’s total recruitment package and Darlington Magazine.

“Our communication strategy is based on a belief in students and in social purpose – that education must lead back to the Rome community. It relies on ingredients like good stories and good storytellers,” said Watterson. “We recognize that alumni want to be in the know. They want to start a conversation with ‘did you hear’ or ‘you’re never going to believe.’ And as an institution that has been around 100 years, we never underestimate the value of our students, faculty and staff.”
