College scholarships given to Darlington seniors

Bert Bray, son of Darlene and Maury Bray, Albertville, Ala., has been selected to receive a Trustee Award from Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham, Ala. He will receive an annual award of $3.750 per year for a total of $15,000 over four years.

Jonathan Chumbler, son of Kay and Rickey Chumbler, Gaylesville, Ala., has been awarded the 2004 Cherokee County Chapter Scholarship by the University of Alabama's Alabama Chapter of the Alabama Alumni Association. He will receive $2,000 to be used during his freshman year.

Ellen Collier, daughter of Jane Gray and Dwayne Collier, Rome, Ga., has been selected to receive a Trustee Award from Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham, Ala. She will receive an annual award of $7,750 per year for a total of $31,000 over four years. Collier has also been chosen as a University Scholar by Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. She will receive $3,000 annually for a total of $12,000 over four years.

Katelyn Dellinger, daughter of Gwen and David Dellinger, Rome, Ga., has been named a University Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. She will receive an annual award of $7,500 for a total of $30,000 over four years.

Israel Gibson, Rome, Ga., has been named a University Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. He will receive $6,000 a year for a total of $30,000 over five years.

Alex Gonzalez, son of Blanca and Raul Gonzalez, Rome, Ga., has been named a Plunkett Honor Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. He will receive $10,000 a year for a total of $50,000 over five years.

Rachel Kim, daughter of Young-Sil and Choung Kim, Korea, has been selected to be a Chancellor’s Scholar worth $8,000 per year and will also receive a University Scholarship of $4,000 per year from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., for a total award of $48,000 over four years.

Grady Lester, son of Cindy Lester and Mike Lester, Rome, Ga., has been selected to receive a Guilford Achievement Award from Guilford College, Greensboro, N.C. He will receive $6,500 per year for a total of $26,000 over four years.

Abigail McGraw, daughter of Cathy and Bob McGraw, Rome, Ga., has been selected as a Chancellor’s Scholar by Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. She will receive $10,000 per year for a total of $40,000 over four years. McGraw has also been chosen to receive a Letitia Pate Evans Scholarship by Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga. She will receive $15,000 per year, totaling $60,000 over four years.

Mary Beth Monk, daughter of Gayle and Wade Monk, Rome, Ga., has been named a University Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. She will receive $6,000 per year for a total of $24,000 over four years.

Bert Noble, son of Ginger and Robert Noble, Rome, Ga., has been selected to receive a President’s Scholarship worth $1,500 a year and has been accepted into the University Honors Program worth $500 a year from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga. He will receive a total of $8,000 over four years.

Zach Norman, son of Roxanne and Jerry Norman, Rome, Ga., has been named a Josiah Penfield Scholar by mercer University, Macon, Ga. He will receive $12,000 a year for a total of $48,000 over four years and a person notebook computer equipped with the latest software and hardware.

Charles Seiz, son of Liz and Bill Seiz, Rockmart, Ga., has been awarded a Shorter College Grant by Shorter College, Rome, Ga. He will receive $2,000 a year for a total of $8,000 over four years.

Nathan Sumner, son of Su and Randy Sumner, Cave Spring, Ga., has been chosen to receive an RIT Presidential Scholarship from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y. He will receive $8,499 per year for a total of $34,000 over four years. Sumner has also been awarded a full-tuition scholarship for the Civil Engineering program of The Albert Nerken School of Engineering of The Cooper Union, New York, N.Y. The total value of the scholarship is approximately $100,000 for four years of study.

Brightman Thomas, son of Susan and Lanny Thomas, Rome, Ga., has been selected as a Georgia M. Wilkins Scholar by Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. He will receive $12,000 a year for a total of $48,000 over four years.

Jessica Wallin, daughter of Terri and Terry Wallin, Cartersville, Ga., has been named a University Scholar by Mercer University, Macon, Ga. She will receive $5,000 a year for a total of $20,000 over four years.

Lydie White, daughter of Vandi and Harry White, Cartersville, Ga., has been named a Furman Scholar worth $3,500 per year and has also been selected to receive an Achiever Scholarship worth $2,500 per year and a Furman Tradition Scholarship worth $3,000 per year totaling $9,000 per year for a grand total of $36,000 over four years from Furman University, Greenville, S.C. White has also been selected as a Georgia M. Wilkins Scholar by Sewanee, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. She will receive $12,000 a year for a total of $48,000 over four years.

Benji White, son of Sherry and Jerome White, Rome, Ga., has been named a Furman Scholar worth $3,500 a year and has been selected to receive an Achiever Scholarhip worth $5,500 a year for an annual total of $9,000 a year and a grand total of $36,000 over four years from Furman University, Greenville, S.C.
