Classics echo from classroom, reinforce music lessons

An education at the Lower School includes studying the life and times of individuals like Schubert, Mussorgsky, Mendelssohn, Menotti, Dvorak, Clara Schuman, Humperdink, Rossini, and Guthrie. These are names of composers music students will study during the 2003-04 academic year through Classics in the Classroom, a music curriculum.
With Classics in the Classroom, teachers play CDs of music of the composer of the month as much as possible during the school day to reinforce the lessons in music class. “Experiences with music lead to greater growth in the arts and the intellectual and personal realms of life,” Diane Lumpkin, music teacher, said. “When great efforts are made to include music in the education of our children, amazing things can happen.”
