Circle GA Trip Day 1: Warm Springs

Today we visited Warm Springs, Georgia. It was the place where F.D.R. had his retreat to recuperate from polio, thinking the springs were therapeutic.

F.D.R. was the president of the U.S. from 1939-1945, when he died at Warm Springs while having a portrait done. The half-finished picture as well as the flag that flew that day still lies within the confines of the Roosevelt Museum, which is an added building on the property of Roosevelt’s retreat.

The retreat is often called the Little White House, as F.D.R. frequented it quite often, 41 times in total. The hot springs stay at a constant temperature of 88 degrees and are heated by geothermal processes. The springs, in the time of F.D.R., where funneled into a pool and open to those with polio seeking relief. Now the water is sent to a research institute nearby but the pools are filled twice a year and open to the public.
