Cinderella crew performs the impossible

“Impossible! …Four white mice will never be four white horses!”
The crew of the Darlington Players’ spring play, Cinderella, begs to differ. While the cast of Cinderella is busy learning lines and dances in preparation for the performances on Valentine’s Day weekend, the crew is also very busy.
The crew will not only create the palace and other sets for the production, but also acts as special assistants to the Fairy Godmother in the creation of Magic. “Cinderella is one of the most technically difficult plays we have ever done,” play director Marisa Ortega said. “Even though the story is familiar to everyone, the behind-the-scenes work will be challenging.”
Sunny Cox, costume mistress, has to be sure that the cast is dressed fit for a royal ball. The crew, led by set designer Rob Davis, will be required to make objects move by themselves, flowers bloom, wands shine, and fires light. But the most daunting challenge will be to turn a pumpkin and four white mice into a golden coach and four horses in time to get Cinderella to the ball.
This Valentine’s give someone special the gift of magic as only Rodgers and Hammerstein can create it. Cinderella will be presented at the Rome City Auditorium on Feb. 13, 14, and 15, 2004. Tickets will go on sale to Darlington Fine Arts Boosters Club members and Patrons on Jan. 5 and to the public on Jan. 19.
