Christmas bake sale helps the world’s needy

Four Darlington Middle School students, Sara Pate, Elizabeth Hortman, Summer Jones, and Mary Beth Montgomery, organized two bake sales to raise money to help people in need around the world during the Christmas season. The students sold home-baked goods and also took donations to make enough money to purchase items in the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas catalog.
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational, evangelical Christian organization dedicated to providing spiritual and physical aid to people around the world. Through the organization’s Christmas catalog, the Middle School students bought such items as a dairy goat, warm blankets, milk, hot meals, fish farms, baby chickens, Christian literature, and Bibles. They also dedicated a portion of the money to help children learn how to read and write.
