Choral groups take first in Region and State competitions

After making a clean sweep of first place in Region competition, Darlington’s Literary Music Team went on to claim wins, including three first place wins, in the State competition. The Literary Music Team took all first place positions in the Region 6-AA Literary competition, sponsored by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), on March 12 at Floyd College. These first place winners include Andrew Gay, senior, in the Boy’s Solo; Katie Tumlin in the Girl’s Solo; Andrew Gay, Jonathan Lane, Paul Maxwell, and Benji White in the Boys’ Quartet; and Lauren Bowling, Whitney Smith, and Mika Wells in the Girls’ Trio competitions.

Winning all first places in the Region competition qualified the Literary Music Team to compete in the State AA Literary competition on March 27 at Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Ga. Darlington’s Boys’ Solo, Girls’ Solo and Boys’ Quartet all placed first in State, and the Girls’ Trio placed fourth. Overall, Darlington came in second place in the State AA Literary event.

“These students deserve a lot of credit for all the hard work they put in to earn these awards,” Dan Bishop, choral director and literary music director, said.
