Call for applications and appointments

Seniors have many September tasks, according to College Dean Sam Moss. If they have not already done so, seniors need to call or write colleges for information and applications as well as schedule appointments and plan visits. They should also set up appointments with their college advisors to discuss colleges and narrow down choices. In addition, they must register for the October and November SAT’s, which all seniors are required to take.
Southern universities’ applications due September 20
Applications for state universities in the South are due to the college guidance office by September 20. These are the “easy” applications that require no recommendations and include Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, and others.
Applications for the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech are also due at this time. Students should note that both require essays.
Meeting this deadline will help ensure a smoother flow of the paperwork from the college guidance office to the colleges, help the seniors spread out their application paperwork, and gain acceptances for many seniors earlier in the year.
“If your grades and scores through your junior year will qualify you for admission, why would you not want to find out that good news as soon as possible?” Moss said. “If your numbers are not high enough, those colleges will re-evaluate your application when they receive your fall SAT’s and your first trimester grades. It’s a no-lose situation for seniors.”
Early Decision and part I’s due October 5
Seniors are reminded that all Early Decision and Part I applications for colleges with a two-part system (Washington & Lee, University of Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt, Ivy League schools, and a number of others) are due by October 5.
