Boys' Track wins County Championship; Bearden breaks school record

Miles Bearden high-jumped 6 feet, 7 inches in yesterday's Floyd County Championship, one of eight first-place Darlington finishes in the boys' overall team victory. The previous high jump record of 6 feet, 6 inches by Joel Martens ('80) had stood since 1978.

The boys' team was led by Senior Alex Cox, who won three events (pole vault, 400 meters, and 800 meters). The following Tigers each won an event: Ian Winder (100 meters), Avery Cypress (1600 meters), Chandler Duggan (triple jump), and the 1600 meter relay team (C. Duggan, Reeves Brown, Winder, and Cox).
The girls' team finished as County Runner-Up, just 12 points behind Rome High. The girls were led by Kinslee Clevenger, who won both the 1600 meters and 800 meters.
Also winning events for the Lady Tigers were Terar Stewart (discus), EJ Newbern (pole vault), Anna Loyd (triple jump), Alea Vick (100 meter hurdles), and Emily Swafford (300 meter hurdles).
