Boys Tennis Wins Sub-Region

The boys tennis team won the Region 6-A North title with victories over Calhoun and Gordon Lee Monday, April 19. The team, 7-8 overall, play for the region championship against the No. 2 team from Region 6-A South Thursday, April 22.

In the team’s 3-2 semifinals win over Calhoun, Stephen Collier and Trammell Starr, playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles, won their matches, as did No. 1 doubles team Blake Cescutti and Ruffin Paulling.

The tennis team took the sub-region tournament with a victory over Gordon Lee 3-0 in the finals, with Collier, Starr, and No. 3 singles player Carl Stromberg winning their matches. Stromberg replaced Chance Andrews, undefeated before spraining his ankle in a match against Lovett.

Coached by Carlos Ortega, the team had victories in the regular season over Dalton 4-1, Cartersville 3-2, Trion 4-1, and Calhoun 3-2. The team fell to Westminster 4-1, Walker 3-2, Holy Innocence 5-0, Rome 3-2, and Chattooga 4-1.

The junior varsity team, which upset Westminster during its season, was composed of Nathan Starr, Drew Smith, Griffin Duncan, Seth Kines, Raul Gonzalez, Allen Babcock, and Sean Watford.
