Boys Basketball Team Closes Season at 17-7

The boys varsity basketball team’s season record of 17 wins and 7 losses earned the players an impressive second place in sub-region 6 north. Blake Rolan added to the imposing record by setting school records for the most blocked shots in a game and in a season with 7 and 52 respectively.
“The team played well together and was one of the best defensive teams we have ever had here. I am proud of all the players and their contributions,” Head Coach Jim Van Es said.
In games since the last issue of Lakeside Lines:
The Tigers beat Gordon Lee 58-44 Friday, Jan. 21, behind a strong defensive effort by the entire team.
Calhoun posted a 68-40 win Saturday, Jan. 22, by holding the Tigers to 2 points in the fourth quarter.
Darlington defeated Model 65-62, Tuesday, Jan. 25. Model’s difficulties with free throws were a major factor in the outcome, with the team only hitting 8 of 19 from the line, including 5 of 7 misses in the final three minutes. The Tigers took advantage of the situation, making a 14-2 scoring run to turn a 60-51 deficit into a three-point victory. Rolan led all scorers with 27 points and made a three-point basket with 52 seconds remaining to grasp the victory.
Due to winter weather conditions, a scheduled competition at the Atlanta International School Jan. 29 was canceled.
Darlington beat Adairsville, 50-46, Tuesday, Feb. 1. Rolan was the lead scorer earning 16 points. Chris Presley scored 10 points and Ryan Fox and Barrett Fleming each earned 9 points to aid in the victory.
The Trion game, scheduled for Jan. 28, was postponed until Thursday, Feb. 3 when Darlington conquered Trion 96-43. Impressively, every member of the Darlington team scored during the game.
In the final game of the regular season against Armuchee, Friday, Feb. 4, once again a strong defensive contributed to the Tigers’ success. The final score was 63-47.
