Boys' and Girls' Cross Country win Area Championship

The varsity boys' cross country team won their 5th consecutive Rome Area Championship on Saturday, and in dominant fashion. The boys scored 23 points, well ahead of 2nd place Rome (78) and 3rd place Cartersville (92).
The girls' also won an impressive victory, scoring a 28. Rome was 2nd (44), and Cartersville was 3rd (107).
The boys were led by Spencer Fields, who won the 5K race with a time of 17:02. This was Spencer's first win in a cross country race. He was followed closely by his teammates, as Darlington had five runners in the top 9, all ahead of any other team's number-2 runner.
Avery Cypress finished 2nd (17:33), Chris Edwards was 5th (18:13), Coulter Schrum was 6th (18:18), and Jared Deaton was 9th (18:23).
Stephanie Ward won the girls' race with a time of 19:39, also her first individual win. Rounding out the top 5 scorers were Kinslee Clevenger in 3rd (20:46), Lauren Hooper in 4th (21:04), Mamie Johnson in 9th (21:52), and Abby Cantrell in 11th (22:14).
