Let’s get to know Tomisin Soetan, a two-year boarding student from Lagos, Nigeria, and head residential prefect in Moser House.
When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“Everyday People” by Arrested Development
What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?
“Atypical”
What house are you a member of?
Moser House
What are you involved in at Darlington?
JV and varsity soccer, Wind Ensemble, head residential prefect in Moser House, Model UN
If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Mr. Luitweiler because he helped me channel my passion for the game of soccer in a more productive way and that really helped me bring others up.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
I love The Growl. I have so many memories with friends and it is pivotal to social interaction at Darlington.
What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
The friendly people. I felt right at home when I got to Darlington and never had an issue making new friends.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
During my first RUMPUS (our weekend-long competition between the dorms), I volunteered to do everything and anything I could. That did not go as planned. The Gauntlet, a distance and obstacle team race, is NOT a joke at all. To sum it all up, it ended with me practically passing out on the football field with both my shirts missing to this day.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've come to truly understand the importance of service and empathy. In the dorms, there are little scuffles and clashes of ideals, but learning from people from so many places and listening to understand is what I can say has impacted me the most.
Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I currently have only heard back from Stetson and Penn State, and I hope to study economics and eventually develop Nigeria into a well-respected country.
