Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Ther Kotchasanmanee
By Maddie Chastain - Faculty
A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.
Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.
Let’s get to know Ther Kotchasanmanee, a four-year boarding student from Thailand who is one of the top-ranked junior golfers in the world.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Bruce. He’s very supportive, as he constantly cheers everyone on.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The dorm is my personal space where I can relax and recharge after a long day of practice. It gives me comfort and a place to rest before the next day.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Shorey isn’t teaching me in my senior year, but I really enjoyed his lessons in Calc AB during my junior year. I wish I could go back in time and sign up for Calc BC. I love calculus and would love to do it again.
What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
Ms. Brewer’s room is quiet and peaceful, offering a calm and focused atmosphere. It’s a place where I can concentrate and think clearly, away from distractions. The peaceful environment makes it easier to relax and engage with the lesson, creating a space where I feel comfortable and ready to learn.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS is a game that brings all students together to work as a team. It’s a fun and engaging activity that has helped me improve my communication skills and build stronger friendships. Through teamwork and cooperation, I’ve learned how to connect with others better, and the game creates a positive, supportive atmosphere. It’s more than just a game—it’s a meaningful experience that brings out the best in people, with heartwarming moments that stay with you long after. It’s something I couldn’t have experienced anywhere else.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I think I’ve gained more confidence in my speaking, especially in class presentations. However, I still have a lot to improve—but at least I’ve made progress.
What is your dream job?
I would say becoming a professional golfer is my ideal path, and it’s something I’ve been working toward for years. Along the way, I want to take the opportunity to attend a top school and engage with new experiences, especially through communication. I want to prove to people that it’s possible to attend a world-class school and succeed as an athlete at the same time. Ultimately, my goal is to have my name remembered in history, where people will recognize it for centuries to come.
If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
I committed to play golf at Princeton University.
