A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Artemis Deslandes-Hydes, a two-year boarding student from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, who is a member of the Soccer Academy and house manager of Thornwood House.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?

“We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?

“Queen of the South”

What house are you a member of?

Thornwood House

What are you involved in at Darlington?

Soccer Academy, house manager of Thornwood House

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?

Stephanie Bradshaw because she was always supportive and always cared about the betterment of the team.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

The Growl. All the dorms can hang out together.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?

Miss Hadaway because she was the nicest teacher during my first year and she always treated us with respect and understanding, and Mrs. O’Mara because she’s like a mother to me while I’m away from home and never fails to give advice or just be there for you.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?

The boarding community.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.

I went on the Soccer Academy Europe trip last spring and I don’t believe if I was somewhere else that I would have gotten that opportunity or the opportunity to watch a top team like Barcelona.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?

I have become more independent at Darlington. Since I am away from home, I had to grow up a bit faster in order to meet the demands of living abroad.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?

I would like to go to college in Florida (USF) and my dream job would either be a position of power at a law firm in the Cayman Islands or as the owner of my own sports medicine/treatment facility.
