Blood Assurance names Darlington 'most improved'

Darlington has received the Most Improved Award from Blood Assurance for the 2008-09 school year.
"Last school year, 33 units were donated from Darlington, compared to the 94 units donated this year," said Jill Rogers, regional manager with Blood Assurance. "That is an increase of 185 percent! Darlington’s blood drives are great for us. The students are wonderful, and the faculty really supports us."
The school held two blood drives this year - one on Nov. 10 in honor of Candice Bendek ('01), who was seriously injured in an automobile crash in 2004, and another April 2 in honor of Madeline Gaffney ('13), a student who was recently diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. The first drive brought in 46 units, while the second totaled out at 48.
"Thanks to all that helped make these drives great successes," said Reba Barnes, director of servant leadership. "Together we have made a difference!"
Blood Assurance has served the people of Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama, with the mission of providing a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to everyone in need.
