Blaylock starts Lower School cross country

The Lower School cross-country team finished third at the Great Pumpkin Race, a competition against seven other schools, in Menlo, Ala.,“We had some really impressive finishes, including two second-place finishers. Robert Kuckoff, fourth grade, ran a 9:52 mile and a half. Margaret Hjort, fifth grade, ran it in 11:21,” Caroline Blaylock, Lower School physical education teacher, said.
The Lower School, with the help of Blaylock, established a cross-country team at the beginning of the academic year. Blaylock performed fitness tests on students in third, fourth, and fifth grades, then created a team by placing three girls and three boys from each grade, based on the results from the mile run. “We don’t really have any other races yet but I am hoping to have another one in the spring at the Lower School,” Blaylock said.
Students running for the Lower School team include fifth graders Maggie Smith, Margaret Hjort, Anna Shea, William Gilbert, Owen Greeson, and Ben Davidson; fourth graders Katie Brewster, Lizzy Gilbert, Mary Bailey Jones, Robert Kuckoff, Erik Griffiths, and Myles Englis; and third graders Baxter McWhorter, Alex Berry, David Grindstaff, Sydney Greene, Megan Healy, and Samantha Ortega.
