Birthday Bunch shares gifts

When parents of six second-graders discovered that their children all had similar birthdays last year, they decided to have a party for all six at one time. And with that, the Birthday Bunch, playing off the Brady Bunch, was born.
This year the parents made T-shirts for each child. On the front of the shirt are photos of three girls down the left side, three boys down the right side and second grade teacher Elaine Smith, Lower School principal Mark Tayloe, and other second grade teacher Lucy Babcock down the middle. See the resemblance?
But this year’s birthday bash was extra special in another way. In lieu of gifts for each of the birthday children, every child attending brought something for Middle School instructor Joey Rice’s cousins, who are in need of extra help right now. “It was very touching, especially for eight-year-olds to give up their birthday gifts to help someone else,” Babcock said.
