Darlington is such a wonderful place to work because we can go beyond the classroom to extend our learning.
Just today we went to Fuddruckers to celebrate studying the letter Ff. French fries, franks and friends - such great things to reinforce the letter and its sound!
Afterwards, we took a walk along the river and discovered many other wonderful things in the fantastic outdoors! We found the Heritage Trail markers and discussed how the veins on the leaf look like the three rivers of Rome. We came to forks in the trail, where we had to decide where to go. We looked at the flow of the Oostanaula River and talked about which direction we would float if we were in a boat. We found starling nests nestled under the bridges, witnessed feathered friends - the great blue heron - in the wetlands, and of course practiced walking faster and faster!
Where else do you have the freedom to teach in creative ways and engage students? I don't know of any. What a fantastic place to teach and learn!
