Manager Joins ARAMARK
Sara Layne has joined the ARAMARK dining staff as a manager. Layne, who has a degree in food and nutrition, comes to Darlington from the University of Alabama.
Thornwood Project Nears Completion
Restoration to the historic Thornwood House, home to Darlington Lower School, is near completion. As part of the project, the main hall, stairs, and parlors have been restored to their original 1848 design ––including wall and trim colors. Mary Sib Mooney Banks ’65T and Nancy Smith Hunter ’65T co-chaired a committee that raised the needed funds. Antique Empire period furnishings have been selected for the parlors and will be in place by the end of March. The rooms will be used for meetings by Darling-ton parents, alumni, and community organizations. Mothers Pray for Darlington
Moms in Touch, a national and international organization comprised of inter-denominational mothers who believe that prayer makes a difference, meets each week to intercede for Darlington children, teachers, administrators, and staff. Everyone is welcome. Moms of Lower School and Middle School children meet at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at First Presbyterian Church, 101 East Third Avenue, in Rome. Moms of Middle and Upper School children meet at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays in the Darlington chapel. The meetings last about one hour. Admission Mails Decisions
With the first round of admission decisions in the mail, the Darlington admission office’s second phase is in progress – accepting applications on a rolling basis as long as space remains available. Because word of mouth is of utmost importance in the admission process, the admission office encourages the Darlington community to pass along the Darlington name to friends and family who may be interested in a boarding school for their child.
Box Tops Mean Dollars for Lower School Spanish Program
Lower School Spanish instructor Barbara Barfield is collecting General Mills box tops to raise money for the Lower School Spanish program. General Mills will give a maximum of $10,000 for all box tops received. Barfield asks that all members of the Darlington community collect and send in the General Mills logos before the March 31 (postmark) deadline. Each logo is worth at least 10 cents. Betty Crocker catalog points and UPS symbols do not count. “We have until March 31 to send the box tops for this academic year, but we can begin a really aggressive campaign for 2000-2001,” Barfield explained.
