Nominations Sought for Two Merit-Based Scholarships
The admission office is seeking candidates for two student scholarships. All members of the Darlington community may submit names during the coming months. The J. Ross McCain Scholarship is a full-tuition merit-based scholarship awarded to one new resident student each year. The Robert P. Holding Scholarship is for North Carolina residents only, and is a partial-tuition merit-based scholarship.

Rome Parent Program
Interest and participation in the Rome Parents Program is on the increase on all three campuses this year.
“All 186 resident students have been ‘adopted’ by local parents,” Rome Parent Program coordinator Becky Beacham said. “Several Middle and Lower School families are recognizing the advantages of participating this year. I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved.”
Sponsored by the Darlington Parents Association, the Rome Parents Program was created as a way for local families to serve as away-from-home parents to resident students. For more information about the program contact Beacham at 770-684-0469.
London Trip Deadline Nears
The deadline for signing up to join Darlington’s spring break trip to London is fast approaching. Deposits must be received by Sam Moss or Lea Duncan or by Alice Enloe at Bryant and Garrett Travel by Oct. 31, as spaces are limited.
Open to students, parents, families, and friends of Darlington, the tour will include visits to Oxford, Stratford, Bath, and London. The price of the trip ($2300) includes airfare, seven nights’ hotel, admission to Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage, Warwick Castle, Madame Tussaud’s, the Roman Baths, Stonehenge, tickets to a London musical, full English breakfast daily, and three dinners. The schedule allows flexibility for planning individual excursions, shopping, additional plays, and other activities.
National Merit Scholarship
Seniors Alexis Adams, Luke Farmer, Raul Gonzalez, and Adam Richardson are semi-finalists in the 2000 Merit Scholarship competition. These students entered the 2000 Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, a nationally recognized standardized test, which serves as a screen of more than one million entrants. The Merit Scholarship competition is extremely rigorous and the number of awards available each year is limited.
Adam was one of four students, out of the 32,074 in the state of Georgia taking the PSAT/ NMSQT, who earned a perfect score, with 800s on the verbal, math, and writing portions.
