Marisa Ortega, Upper School English instructor, received the Margaret Grant Fielders Scholarship from the Bread Loaf School of English at Lincoln College in Oxford, England. This named scholarship, a sign of appreciation for her academic work, was given by her professors, colleagues, and James H. Maddox, director of the Bread Loaf School of English. Ortega spent five summers studying to obtain a master’s degree in English. Also see photo and caption, above.
“The Autobiography of Exit 9,” Part II of a multiple part poem by Matthew Kearney, Upper School English instructor and adviser to the student literary magazine, The Inkslinger, has been accepted for publication by Hellp! literary magazine in Farmingdale, N.J. Kearney’s poem, “Rome, Georgia,” has been accepted for publication in Chattahoochee Review. Kearney is currently reviewing a book for Chattahoochee Review entitled Daughter of the Hangnail by Rebecca Reynolds, an administrator at Rutgers University and a nationally acclaimed poet.
Jeffrey Connelly and MiKahla Harris have been elected by their peers to serve as the ninth grade Student Council representatives. The Student Council directs the student life of the school and serves as liaison between the student body and the student body president, Will Thuston, and through him, the faculty.
