Former Olympic Athlete Demonstrates Fencing
Sandor Kiss, a 1988 Olympic fencing athlete, visited the Middle School, Monday, Feb. 7, to introduce fencing to the students. During the assembly, Kiss, Lower School fifth-grader Katherine Lynch, first-grader Jack Lynch, Lower School parents Martin Lynch and Caroline Dean, and Darlington alumnus Richard Bradley ’92 demonstrated the three types of fencing weapons. Kiss, who lives in Stone Mountain, Ga., comes to Rome one or two times each week to instruct members of the Rome Fencing Club.
Buzz on Campus: Spelling Bee Winners Go to State
Seventh-grader Michael Webster is the Middle School spelling bee champion. Eighth-grader Drew Parker earned second place status. Runners-up include seventh-graders Payton Bradford and Matt Floyd and eighth-grader Max Hinton. At press time, Webster and Parker were planning to continue the competition at district level at St. Jude’s Catholic School in Atlanta on Thursday, Feb. 17. The top speller at district will go to the state spelling bee to be held in Macon on Friday, March 3.
