Lower School fifth-grader Sara Pate, who plays basketball for a Darlington girls 12 and under team through Floyd County Recreation Authority, describes her perspective of basketball in a poem written to her coach, Penny Braden, Darlington technology assistant.
Basketball
Basketball Players.
How do they do it?
Moms in the stands.
Popcorn on the floor.
Whistles blowing.
Coaches knowing.
With all the pressure.
They will do it.
Oh, Oh.
She blew it.
One more shot for her to make.
Swoooooosh.
She did it.
That’s all it would take.
