BASEBALL: Darlington’s Shadday named Player of Year

Starting pitcher and lead-off batter junior Jay Shadday has been named Rome News-Tribune Baseball Player of the Year. His performance on the field this year helped lead the Tigers to the Region 7-AA win, and on to the Class AA state baseball championship.

Over the course of the season the Rome native struck out 89 batters, allowed 11 earned runs on 43 hits and finished with an ERA of 1.027. One of the region's leading batters, the junior completed his season with a .471 batting average, 32 singles, 11 doubles and five home runs. 

Shadday has committed to play baseball at Georgia Tech upon graduation next year.
