Band, choral programs gain space

For years, Darlington’s instrumental music and choral programs have expanded in membership. Now, they are expanding in space as well.
The recently completed A.J. Huffman ’67 Memorial Athletic Center contains a brand-new weight room, meaning that the Zelle fitness room is no longer necessary. The room it previously occupied will now be used as practice space for Choral Director Dan Bishop and the choral program. Instrumental Music Director Bill King and Darlington's instrumental music program will take over the space vacated by Bishop while retaining its current space. The two rooms will be joined as one, roughly doubling the band’s practice space.
“We’ve been needing this additional space since my second or third year here,” King said. “It will allow us to have a full band rehearsal in our room instead of having to use the chapel or the Wilcox lounge. It also allows us to do a few more things in the band room, such as ensembles. We can set up more than the band itself.”
