Darlington finished the 2000-01 school year with a fourth-place finish in the race for the Class AA Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s Gatorade/Balfour Director’s Cup.

Helping Darlington attain this high ranking was the girls cross country team, which won its fifth consecutive state championship.

The standings are determined by positions earned at state championships. The fourth-place finish put Darlington below Class AA state champion Cartersville, runner-up Greater Atlanta Christian, and third-place finisher Pace Academy.

According to the GADA website, the purpose of the Director’s Cup is “to recognize those athletic departments in all classifications who have excelled and shown superior performance.” The Cup is awarded annually.
