Darlington’s head varsity football coach Tommy Atha has been selected to give a presentation at the Frank Glazier Football Clinic in Atlanta Feb. 27 to March 1. Atha’s session will focus on three important aspects of coaching – adjusting your scheme to fit your personnel, stretching the field with the running game and running the ball effectively from the gun.

“This is a great privilege for me because Glazier Clinics are nationally renowned and are well attended by so many great coaches,” Atha said. “To be asked to share some of the things we do here at Darlington with other coaches is certainly an honor for me and my staff. We have a great deal of confidence in what we do, and we know what has worked for us. I would like to think that others could benefit from some of the things we are doing here.”

Atha, who has attended this clinic in the past, added that it is important to share ideas with peer coaches because “everything a coach does in his program is something he has learned from someone else.”

“When you share ideas with other coaches, you also have the opportunity to learn things that might make your program better,” he said. “The publicity for Darlington is a good thing as well. When you attend clinics like the Glazier Clinic, you will find that the speakers are usually from programs that are recognized for being successful. For Darlington to be included here shows that we are viewed as one of those successful programs.

“I would also like to see the exposure create even more interest in our 7-on-7 Camp,” Atha added. “Currently, we have five different AAAAA programs among other AAAA and AAA programs that come to our campus every year to attend our camp. Who knows? We might have to run a second session. I know it never hurts to have your program recognized in national publications like the Glazier Clinic manual.”
