Art classes benefit from Johnson’s experience

Darlington newcomer Karen Johnson is taking great strides and leaving her prints in the art program at Darlington. With a broad background including layout, graphic arts, fashion, advertising, and even carpet painting, Johnson is well-qualified for the job of teaching Upper School Art I and two Middle School classes.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in art education with an emphasis on painting and drawing, Johnson went to work as an art director and layout artist for Pizits Advertising Firm in Birmingham. Following this, she pursued graphic arts for six years and then had her first child.
Moving to teaching was both fun and convenient for Johnson in her new role as a mother. Before coming to Darlington, she taught high school art at East Rome High School for two years and Armuchee High School for two years. “With three kids, teaching at Darlington is the perfect balance for my time,” Johnson said.
