April is School Library Month!

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) celebration of school librarians and their programs. Every April, school librarians help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student's educational career.
The School Library Month theme for 2012 is "You belong @ your library." This month, the Darlington Library Services department challenges the Darlington community to be thinking about the ways that you belong @ your school library.
At Thatcher Hall, I invite Middle School students and teachers to come to the library and write down one or two ways that you know you belong @ the library. (It can be anonymous!) I will add those comments to a special School Library Month display over the next few weeks.
If you are part of the Upper or Lower School communities, you could share the ways that you know you belong by talking to your librarian, leaving a note at the circulation desk or inside a book that you return, writing an e-mail, or even posting to the comments section of this blog!
Here are just a few clues that YOU might belong @ YOUR school library:
1. Your librarian has read a special story to your class.
2. Your librarian has planned a special craft or activity for your class.
3. Your librarian has bought a book that you requested for the library.
4. Your librarian has read a book that you recommended to her.
5. Your favorite book is on the library shelf.
6. Your librarian has helped you to locate a book, website, article, database, or other resource.
7. Your librarian has helped you with your computer or iPad.
8. Your librarian has talked to you about books and recommended books for you to read.
9. You have had a class or lesson take place in the library.
10. You have participated in a contest or special program in the library.
11. Your librarian has helped you understand how to do research better.
12. Your librarian has helped you to complete a project or a school assignment.
13. Your librarian has taught you something about copyright or plagiarism.
14. You have come to the library for some peace and quiet.
15. You have come to the library for some laughs and good conversation.
16. You have found something new in your library, and liked it.
