Another Great Year!

As the members of the Class of 2010 celebrate their recent commencement and look forward to beginning a new phase in their lives, I want to share with you some exciting news! These 133 students performed remarkably well in college admissions, despite the fact that colleges and universities across the country have become increasingly more selective.

 

In the fall 2010, the largest class of college freshmen in our nation’s history will venture to institutions around the world, many of which have had to trim budgets and find ways to meet the increasing number of financial aid requests in light of our slowly recovering economy.

 

Even facing these challenges, the members of the Class of 2010 were accepted at 192 different colleges and universities, and will be attending 70 institutions in 21 states and Spain. Thirty-one percent will attend college in Georgia; 48 percent will attend institutions in other Southeastern states; and 21 percent will venture to other regions of the U.S. and abroad.

 

But that’s not all: 63 members of Darlington’s Class of 2010 – or 47 percent of the class – were offered a total of $5.2 million in college scholarships (not including HOPE Grants), and the 15 senior members of the Cum Laude Society, Darlington’s highest academic honor, have earned almost double the amount in scholarships as the Cum Laude members of the Class of 2009. These scholarships include such prestigious awards as the Morehead-Cain at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Presidential Scholarships at Sewanee, Stetson, Rollins, Auburn, Samford, Eckerd, Union and Case Western Reserve.

 

It’s been another great year in college admissions for Darlington, and the credit goes to our dedicated college advisors and college guidance staff but, most importantly, to our seniors themselves. Kudos to all of you for a job well done! You have represented Darlington well during your time here, and I know you will continue to do so even after you leave these gates.
