Annual Fund tops goal with two months to go

The 2004-05 Annual Fund: Dedicated to Darlington’s 100th Class is becoming one for the record books. Thanks to a gift from a member of the Class of 1945, the Annual Fund eclipsed $1 million before Dec. 31 for the first time in the history of the School.
But the good news did not stop there. In mid-January, development officers announced that this year’s Annual Fund had surpassed the $1.17 million raised during the 2003-04 campaign, and on May 2, a gift from a member of the Class of 1967 put the Annual Fund above its $1.325 million goal for this year.
“It’s been an incredible year, and I am honored to be a part of this record-breaking team,” said Annual Fund Chairman Clint Hubbard (’81). “The volunteer base and the Development Office staff have worked very hard to make this happen, and of course we could never have done it without each and every donor.”
Answering Hubbard’s call, alumni, faculty, parents, grandparents and friends have rallied to support the School and help the Annual Fund reach its goal. The Board of Trustees, grandparents and parents of alumni groups have all exceeded their dollar goals for this year. Additionally, Darlington’s faculty and staff, Board of Trustees and Alumni Council have reached 100-percent participation.
“I thank everyone who has contributed thus far and thank in advance those who still plan to make gifts to Darlington in the near future,” said Hubbard.
Development officers would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers who have worked so hard to help reach this very important milestone, including a special student group called SOAR (Students Organized to Assist in Raising).
“It has been a pleasure to work with this year’s SOAR volunteers, who truly love Darlington,” said Molly Gannaway, Annual Fund gifts officer. “Their enthusiasm and dedication has been inspiring. After four very successful phonathons, the students decided to add a fifth night of calling on the night of their wrap-up party. SOAR ended up raising a total of $13,970 for this year’s Annual Fund.”
With $1,350,162 currently on the books from 1,784 donors, Gannaway is confident that the momentum will stay strong. “I am very proud of the Darlington community,” she said. “Hitting the goal so early in the year allows us to focus our efforts on increasing our participation numbers and collecting pledges.”
Since its inception in 1968, Darlington School’s Annual Fund program has appealed to members of its extended family to make an investment in the School’s students and faculty with gifts to the annual campaign. Donations to the Annual Fund provide for: innovative and challenging academic, athletic and arts programs; increased leadership opportunities for students; recruitment of highly talented faculty; student scholarships; small class sizes designed to give teachers the opportunity to provide individual attention; and much more.
