Lively. Substantive. Informative. Constructive. These are the words Annual Fund Chair Jack Harris ’71 used to describe an annual fund strategic planning meeting, held in Atlanta, in February. The volunteer leadership focused on developing strategies for successful fundraising, both to complete this year’s campaign and begin plans for next year’s in a conference room at the Prominence Building in Atlanta, thanks to the generosity of Quill Healey ’56, chairman of Marsh North America, who invited the group to use the location. Healey is a member of the Darlington Board of Trustees and chairman of the Development Committee.

“We are on the threshold of greater results. A strategic approach to our fundraising efforts is needed now rather than the take-the-hill approach we have used in the past,” Harris emphasized.

At the midpoint of the campaign in late January, the Annual Fund had reached a total of $926,700 against a $1.4 million goal, or 66 percent of goal. The Day Parent Division, under the leadership of Nancy Brass, had raised $107,245 in gifts and pledges, or 86 percent of its goal.

The leadership will hold one more strategy session in May to develop an Annual Fund strategic plan and to begin the transition from Harris’ leadership to Joyce Riddle Neely T’62, Board of Trustee member, who will serve as the next Annual Fund chair.
