Annual Fund helps us grow

The Annual Fund Campaign for 2001-2002 has set the goal at $1,333,000 by May 31, 2002. The Darlington Annual Fund is a yearly campaign to raise money for academic, social, moral, physical, and spiritual enhancements for Lower, Middle, and Upper School. Tax-deductible gifts to the Annual Fund help to bridge the gap between tuition income and operating expenses of the School. This past year, the Annual Fund contributed 9.1 percent to Darlington’s total operating budget, or $1,430 in non-tuition revenue for each of the School’s 900 students.
In order to achieve this year’s goal, Darlington depends on the support, energy and commitment of its volunteers. This year’s leadership for volunteer division chairs include Joyce Riddle Neely ’T 62, national chair; Robert Harbin ’67, board of trustees; Terry Honan ’64, board of visitors; Douglas Remer, resident parent; Nancy Brass, day parent; Chasen Mull ’78, day parent elect chair; Ed Watters ’83, alumni; Clinton Hubbard ’81, Rome major gifts; Peter Hjort, Rome major gifts chair elect; Jane and Hobart Hortman, grandparents; Stephen Conrad, parents of alumni; David Pesterfiled ’68, reunion gifts; Stephanie Denney ’91 and Mary K. McGuffey ’90, Atlanta alumni phonathon; Billy Harrison ’86, Rome alumni phonathon; Tim Foote, Upper School; Tommy Atha, Middle School; and Lucy Babcock, Lower School.
The Annual Fund Leadership Group had their first strategy planning meeting in September at the Prominence Building in Atlanta, thanks to the generosity of Quill Healey ’56, chairman of Marsh North Americas and former member of the Darlington board of trustees and chairman of the development committee. The major focus of this meeting was on identifying steps Darlington could take this year to increase participation in the Annual Fund.
