Darlington School announces that the 2004-05 Annual Fund: Dedicated to Darlington’s 100th Class surpassed its goal of $1.325 million. Led by Chairman Clint Hubbard (’81) and a record number of volunteers, the campaign raised $1,333,146 from 1,876 donors.

“Our Annual Fund volunteers and the Darlington development staff have done a wonderful job with this campaign, and it has been an honor to work with them this year,” said Hubbard.

According to Annual Fund Gifts Officer Molly Gannaway, much of the success of this year’s Annual Fund can be attributed to alumni and parents, whose philanthropy comprised over half of the total money raised. “We also had an increase in donors over last year, which shows that our constituents understand that every gift, regardless of size, really does matter,” she said.

Nearly 100 volunteers gave their time at phonathons, gatherings and through personal solicitation during the course of the year. The 2004-05 Annual Fund Board, which led the way to success, included Hubbard, Vice Chairperson Linda Owens (’79), Alumni Chairperson Bob Hortman (’72), Board of Visitors Chairperson Bob Covington (’64), Upper School Parent Chairperson Tim Wallis (’69), Middle School Parent Co-Chairpersons Janice and Tom Shea, Lower School Parent Chairperson Steve Brewster (’87), Reunion Chairperson Jim Ford (’54), Grandparent Co-Chairpersons Suzy and Pete Gilbert (’57), Parent of Alumni Chairperson Bill Sharp, Rome Major Gifts Chairperson Jimmie Dudley, Rome Phonathon Chairperson Billy Harrison (’86), Atlanta Phonathon Chairperson Chris Jefts (’84), Upper School Faculty Chairperson Rob Davis (’85), Middle School Faculty Chairperson Rachel Rice (’98) and Lower School Faculty Chairperson Kandi Riddle.

Since its inception in 1968, Darlington’s Annual Fund program has appealed to members of its extended family to make an investment in the School’s students and faculty with gifts to the annual campaign. Donations to the Annual Fund provide for innovative and challenging academic, athletic and arts programs; increased leadership opportunities for students; recruitment of highly talented faculty; student scholarships; small class sizes designed to give teachers the opportunity to provide individual attention; and much more.
