Annual Fund achieves solid results

Darlington School completed the 2000-2001 Annual Fund with a total earning of $1,286,750 in cash gifts. “The success can be attributed to the more than 2,500 contributors plus volunteers led by Darlington’s National Annual Fund Chair Jack Harris, Rome, Ga. (Darlington class of 1971 and counsel to president, Zartic, Inc.),” Mary Norton, gift officer for annual giving, explained.
Annual gifts benefit the School’s academic, cultural, social, moral, physical, and spiritual programs for students. This past year, the Annual Fund contributed 9.1 percent to Darlington’s total operating budget, or $1,430 in non-tuition revenue for each of the School’s 900 students. “Students prosper at Darlington because of the intimate learning environment and also because of the many and varied programs the School offers. Our uniqueness requires significant resources to support the School’s challenging and diverse curriculum,” Harris said. “Tuition alone does not provide the revenue needed to support the quality programs available at the Lower, Middle, and Upper schools. The Annual Fund is an important source of income in closing this gap.”
Darlington parents recognized the significance of the fund and demonstrated their strong commitment to the School by raising $191,099 and reaching a 55 percent participation rate.
