Anderson and Pollard named Students of the Month

Outstanding academic achievement has won seniors Brody Anderson and Beau Pollard the honor of being named Noon Optimist Students of the Month for October and November, respectively.
Anderson is a straight-A student who has taken 20 Honors and AP courses. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica and the Chess Club. A Furman and Wofford Scholar, he has also received the AP Scholar with Honor Award and the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit as well as an E.L. Wright Award in Ancient World History.
Outside of Darlington, Anderson has attended Stanford University's Summer Institutes for two consecutive summers. He also plays piano and volunteers his time with the William H. and Mattie Wattis Harris Foundation and by coaching soccer at the local YMCA. Anderson is currently in the process of applying to college, and is interested in Stanford University, Georgia Tech, Colgate University, Carnegie Mellon University, Southern Methodist University, the University of Chicago and Worchester Polytechnic Institute. He is the son of RuthAnne and Todd Anderson of Kingston, Ga.
"Brody Anderson is a fine example of both a student and a human being," wrote one of his teachers in a letter of recommendation. "He is a student of the highest integrity, of the truest character and of the utmost regard for scholarly endeavor. Brody always gives his best and it is remarkable to behold."
Pollard also maintains an A-average and has received an E.L. Wright Award for Computers and Robotics. A member of French Club and the Outdoor Adventures Club, he also plays lacrosse, rides motocross and is an avid outdoorsman. Pollard enjoys working with children and volunteers his time with the Open Door Children's Home and the YMCA's Youth Lacrosse Program in addition to working at Camp Darlington during the summer. He has already been admitted to the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Oklahoma State University, Georgia Southern and the University of Mississippi, and has also applied to Clemson University. He is the son of Beth and Jack Pollard of Rome.
"Beau is a leader among his peers," wrote one of his teachers in a letter of recommendation. "He is the kind of student that always puts forth extra energy and attention to assigned tasks, and stays late to make sure the job is complete. Integrity, passion and empathy are just a few of the key ingredients that can be found in the heart of Beau Pollard."
Anderson and Pollard were honored during a special luncheon held Monday, Nov. 30, at The Palladium in Rome.
