Alumni Phonathons raise over $61,500 for Annual Fund

The Alumni Relations Office is pleased to announce that this year’s Atlanta Alumni and Rome Alumni Phonathons raised a total of $61,516 for the 2004-05 Annual Fund: Dedicated to Darlington’s 100th Class. The events were held Sept. 27 and 29 and Oct. 19 and 21, respectively.
“I’d like to thank each and every volunteer for his/her tremendous efforts on Darlington’s behalf,” said Lauren Ledbetter, alumni relations officer. “With this type of momentum and energy and enthusiasm, there are no limits to what we can accomplish together.”
At the first night of the Atlanta Phonathon, hosted by Chris Jefts (’84), 91 donations were received. Callers were Jefts, Jason Haney (’92), Mary Hight (’96), Mary K. McGuffey (’90), Ron Mixon (’88) Tom Muller (’87) and Matt Sawhill (’96). McGuffey received the grand prize for the most donors.
“Despite Hurricane Jeanne’s wrath and two short power outages, we had a wonderful first night,” said Ledbetter. “Like the dedicated alumni they are, they braved the elements to get us closer to our goal.”
At the second night, hosted by Tommy Nichols (’74), 45 donations were received. Callers were Nichols, Carter Edge (’73), Steve Wilhoite (’73) and Clay Doss (’74). Wilhoite won the grand prize for the most donors.
“We wrapped up with a bang, raising a total of $17,151 over the two-day event,” said Ledbetter. “The Rome Alumni Phonathon followed in October, raising $44,315 for this year’s Annual Fund. Volunteers were able to secure gifts from 163 new donors.”
Rome Phonathon volunteers included chairman Billy Harrison (‘86), Mark Berry (’68), Kendall Collins (’97), Robert Hortman (’72), Clint Hubbard (’81), Christa Jackson (’73), David Ledbetter (’88), Wright Ledbetter (’85), Gordon Neville (’55), Cameron O’Riley (’95), Layton Roberts (’82), Jay Smithson (91), Bill Temple (’90), Stephanie Smith Walker (’83), Ed Watters (’83) and Alice Harrison Williams (’87).
