Alumni Invited to Run in Annual Ekiden
By Vicki (Slauson) Vincent - FF/S
Another exciting Alumni Weekend event has been added to the schedule. Alumni, parents, faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the third annual Cross Country Ekiden at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.
An ekiden is a cross country relay, and our relay will consist of four-person teams running two miles each for a total of eight miles. This event will take place on the cross country course, starting at the Upper School soccer field. It will conclude by 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning with a fun awards ceremony.
We introduced our annual ekiden in 2008 with our varsity runners, and last year we added the Middle School runners and coaches. This year, we want to grow it even more to include the entire Darlington family!
If you would like to participate, please e-mail head cross country coach Alan Parish by next Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. Include in your e-mail an estimated time for a two-mile race. The time is very important because teams will be created with the hope of making all of the total times equal. Teams will be announced Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. with two nights to put together your team uniforms.
