Alford named to All-Area Baseball team

Senior pitcher/outfielder Corey Alford was named to the 2007 Rome News-Tribune All-Area Baseball team. Though a broken hand caused him to miss games at the tail end of the season, he still compiled impressive numbers for the Tigers. He batted .362, the second-highest mark on the team, and struck out 37 batters in just 24 innings, earning three wins. Alford is the son of Donna and Rudy Alford of Lindale, Ga. Honorable mentions were received by Thad Jolly of Kingston, Ga., and Brice Baker, Chase Butler and Shawn Powell, all of Rome.
