A Winning Combination

We have just celebrated our annual Grand Special Day at the Lower School, which is my favorite event of the year. It’s a time of an unbeatable combination: family and children. 

We’re surrounded by generations of love and commitment as we focus on young minds and hearts. What a glorious sight seeing chubby hands grasping those time-worn ones as they proudly showed their accomplishments in the classrooms! Tears and chills were everywhere as our children’s cherub voices filled the gym with, “When you wish upon a star,” just slightly off tune. 

This special day always reminds me of the importance of family and how we see evidence of this here every day. Whether it’s a parent working on a set for an upcoming play, or a dad explaining to a class how the heart works, or grandparents enjoying lunch with their offspring in Tiger Hall, families are a welcomed and common sight on our campus. 

When I tell visitors that Darlington is a wonderful, caring family, I mean it in every sense of the word. Our teachers know and are concerned about all of our students, not just those in a particular class. Children here are confident that their needs will be met with love and direction, in the classroom, on the playground, or anywhere they happen to be. Our older students mentor younger ones and teach them by example as they read, work or just play together. Smiles light up their faces when they see each other across the courtyard. We are truly a wonderful combination of family and children!  

And there’s plenty of love to go around, so please let me know if you have someone in mind you would like to see join our family. It would be another great combination!
