A Fortnight in Dar World

I live and work at Darlington. These are some things that have happened in my life in just the past two weeks…
• I had the opportunity to perform in a play that one of my own students wrote and directed!
• I rowed on the erg while listening to Ariana Grande’s song, Problem, blasting on the sound system. I also saw a scuba class, watched a volleyball tournament, and swam laps in the same building.
• I ate breakfast with friends, lunch with friends, and dinner with friends - on a workday.
• I went with students to see The Comedy of Errors at The Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta.
• I loaned some DVDs to a student. In my cinema class we spent the first month of school studying films from the silent era. One student made my day by asking if I had any more films by the same filmmakers that he could borrow to watch on the weekend.
• I got a lot of hugs and a lot of high fives. Probably more high fives than hugs. It’s still really hot out there and I have a sweating problem. Don’t make me feel weird about it. There's only so much talc in the world.
• I went with students to The Alliance Theater in Atlanta to see the world premiere of a new musical. I had a milkshake at The Varsity on the same trip. It was a large.
• I had a paintball gun fired at me at close range. I had a face mask on, so none of the Moser boys saw the single tear that ran down my cheek from the pain. It was my first time doing paintball, but not my first time crying in the middle of the woods. I'm not one to name names, but the student who shot me has a name that rhymes with Chuart Steney. Not cool, Chuart. Not cool at all.
• I woke up on a beautiful campus complete with water, trees, and an all-you-can-eat salad bar.
• I overheard conversations in Chinese, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Croatian, Russian, and American Southern.
• My 6-month old chocolate lab, Pajamas, got to play with about 100 different people, 9 other dogs, 2 cats, 7 deer, 34 squirrels, 51 moths, and 469 sticks. My 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab, Beans, got to play with 1 tennis ball.
It’s been a fairly typical 336 hours around here. Yeah. Life here is pretty great.
