8 Things Our Students Learned the First Day of School (as Told Through Instagram)
By Tannika King - Faculty
There's nothing quite like the first day of school.
Whether you are a day student who has been at Darlington forever, a new third-grader, a boarding student from Atlanta, or an international boarder from halfway across the world, your #FirstDayAtDAR sets the tone for the rest of the year. Sure, there are some nerves, but mostly there is a great deal of excitement (among students as well as teachers!)
In this photo blog of curated images from Instagram, see what Darlington students learned on the first day of school.
1. You are LOVED. Darlington is a community in every sense of the word and your fellow Tigers are here to support you.

2. Darlington quickly becomes your home away from home, whether you are a four-year boarding student or a 4-year old starting school in pre-kindergarten.

3. Darlington seniors end the #FirstDayatDAR with a HUGE leg up in the college admission process thanks to College Boot Camp. In addition to working with their college advisors, the Class of 2017 heard from a panel of college admissions pros.

4. It's never too early to innovate! Here, Mrs. Deaton's kindergarten students explore the new ELA-8 MakerSpace.

5. Relationship-building is important to student happiness at school, and students in grades 9-11 spent the first day of school doing just that. Through a scavenger hunt, team-building exercises and other activities, students and teachers made connections that will carry them through their years at Darlington.

6. Hide and Seek is a great way to learn your way around Darlington's expansive campus. We had a blast playing "Find a Teacher" with students in grades 9-11 on Monday. #500acresoffun

7. At Darlington, we put Honor Above Everything. Throughout one’s daily activities and interactions at Darlington, a spirit of fair play and truth is encouraged, while dishonorable conduct is not tolerated. We value this school-wide approach of instilling integrity and respect in our school community.
