3 named to All-Region Basketball Teams

Three students have been named to the 6A All-Region teams.
Maggie Beth Atha, a senior four-year letter winner and three-year team captain, has played in 107 games, starting in all but one. She has amassed over 1,200 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists. A two-time Defensive MVP, Atha has earned multiple All-Region, All-Area and honorable mention nods, in addition to being named this year's Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival Tournament MVP. This fall, she will attend The University of Georgia and plans to major in biochemistry. She is the daughter of Cathe and Tommy Atha of Rome.
Sarah Manning, a senior four-year letter winner and one-year team captain, has played in 107 games, starting in over 50. She has scored over 600 points and grabbed over 600 rebounds. Manning has been named “Most Improved” and is a three-time recipient of the “I Love to Practice Award.” She was also named All-Tournament at this year’s Lady Tiger Classic as well as the Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival. This fall, she plans to attend college and pursue a career in speech pathology or finance. She is the daughter of Susi and Tommy Manning of Rome.
Hackett Shiflett, a junior, was called "one of the most explosive players on the varsity basketball team" by head coach Tim Garrett. He shot 52% from the field and 31% from behind the 3-point line. He also averaged 2.5 assists and 2 steals per game. Other coaches in the region called him “the shooter” and always commented on his hustle and competitive attitude. Garrett added that Shiflett is the type of player that gives his team the competitive edge and heart necessary to “will” his team a victory in competition. He is the son of Sallye and David Shiflett of Rome.
Additionally, junior Rachel Simon received an Honorable Mention. She is the daughter of Sha' and Dan Simon of Rome.
