It's hard to believe that there is only one month left until the start of school. While your children may or may not be ready to return to classes in August, I can tell you that those of us who work on campus during the summer months are so very ready to have them back. We miss them!

As we anticipate the start of a new school year, I hope you will make note of two upcoming community events that will help us kick the year off in Tiger fashion. Current families, faculty and staff, alumni, and friends are invited, so help us spread the word. We hope you will save these dates and make plans to attend!

1. The Purple Tie Affair - Head of School Brent Bell and his wife, Andrea, invite you to this adults-only event on Aug. 16 to support Darlington's parent organizations. The fun will kick off at 6 p.m. in the Huffman Athletic Center with a spectacular dinner and open bar, live entertainment, and a silent and live auction. You even have the opportunity to win $10,000 or tuition credit up to $18,000 if you choose to participate in the reverse raffle! All proceeds raised by this event are split between ELA-8 Tiger Pride, Upper School Tiger Pride, the Athletic Booster Club and the Fine Arts Booster Club. Click here to purchase your dinner and reverse raffle tickets online.

2. Darlington Day at the Rome Braves - Show your Tiger Spirit on Aug. 23 at this family friendly event at Rome's State Mutual Stadium! We hope to see a huge crowd of purple and white in the stands as we cheer on the Rome Braves in their 7 p.m. game against the Charleston RiverDogs. Gates open at 6 p.m. Students will participate in the pre-game parade around the field, fine arts students will perform the national anthem, and Head of School Brent Bell will throw out the ceremonial first pitch! Click here to purchase your game tickets and parking pass online before Aug. 6

We always hear - and I truly believe - that the sense of community here at Darlington is one of the most special things about our school. Prospective families often tell us that they feel it as soon as they step foot onto our campus. My colleagues will tell you that Darlington is like a family, and I think most parents and alumni would agree!

The Darlington Community is unlike anything I've ever experienced, and I cannot think of a better way to kick off a new school year than with these two great events that will bring our whole community together. Hope to see you soon!
