Middle Grades Advisory
Middle School is a time of growth and change.
The middle school years are filled with new experiences, growing independence, and important discoveries. Darlington's Middle Grades Advisory Program provides a consistent source of encouragement and support, helping students build confidence, navigate challenges, and develop meaningful connections during this exciting stage of life.
The Role of the Advisor
Every middle grades student is paired with a dedicated advisor who serves as a trusted mentor, advocate and guide. Advisers work closely with students, families, and teachers to support each child's academic, social, and emotional development, while serving as the primary point of contact for parents throughout the school year.
Advisory groups are divided by grade level and by boys and girls, creating an environment where students feel comfortable discussing the unique opportunities and challenges of adolescence. Advisers get to know each student personally, monitor academic progress, provide guidance on classes and extracurricular involvement, and create a safe space where students can ask questions, seek advice, and grow in confidence.
Advisory is also one of the most enjoyable parts of the middle grades experience. Throughout the year, students strengthen friendships and build community by participating in beloved traditions such as Dot Day of Service, the Halloween Skits, Field Day, and other activities that celebrate teamwork, leadership, and the joy of being together.
