Monday, February 2, 2026 | By Rebekah Kinney | 16 views

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring legacy of justice, equality, and service, Atrium Health Floyd invited fifth-grade students across Rome and Floyd County to participate in a county-wide essay contest. The contest encouraged students to reflect on Dr. King’s impact and the continued relevance of his message in today’s world.

Representatives from Atrium Health Floyd Kurt Stuenkel and Will Byington as well as Tashia Twyman visited Darlington today to recognize fifth-grade MLK Jr. essay contest winners MJ Dean (also the county-wide winner), Jack Stone and Elliott Spears.

This meaningful experience highlighted not only the students’ strong writing skills, but also their deep understanding of Dr. King’s message and its importance in shaping a more just and compassionate community.
